Rick Carlson

About 6 years ago I was standing in the parking lot of a Las Vegas hotel waiting to get a cab to go to dinner when one of my colleagues said “have you ever met Jamiel Saliba?” I had not and was introduced to this large man with a strange kind of flowery sun hat on his head. When Jamiel said his name in his deep southern drawl,  I said “Your name doesn’t seem as southern as your accent, where is home?” Jamiel , then stated “BIRMINGHAM ALABAMA – where do you live?” Having recently moved to Florida and not really knowing the popularity of the place that I had moved, I said “a small town in the panhandle of Florida”. He then inquired as to where in the Panhandle and I said “Destin”. Upon hearing the town he jumped up and said “DESTIN! I GOT CONDO’S IN DESTIN…DO YOU GOLF?” From that point on, whenever he came to Destin, we found time to play golf, have a beer or two, and help solve the problems of the world! A terrific friend who will be sorely missed.
